General

The Bi-LINE H system has been developed to protect operatives against a fall from the open doors on road haulage vehicles and from open curtain sides. To ensure that the system is easy to use and for the operative and its use is easy to enforce by the employer.

While on a hard sided vehicle it is only the rear doors where protection is required, the system has been designed so that the operative makes only one connection and remains connected while they are in the vehicle.  The operative does not disconnect from the Bi-LINE system until they are firmly back on the ground.

Operation

The lanyard is stored fully retracted and connected to a stowage strap.  The operative simply pulls down to the lanyard and connects it to their harness whilst they are on the ground.  As they climb up onto the vehicle, the lanyard automatically retracts ensuring that there is no slack.  The lanyard will automatically follow the operative along the length and width of the vehicle, paying out and retracting the lanyard as required.  If the operative were to stumble or fall, an over speed device in the lanyard housing locks and the fall is immediately arrested.

The operative remains connected to the system until they safely back on the ground.  The lanyard is then disconnected from the harness and re-connected to the stowage strap and allowed to retract back into the housing.

Construction

The system comprises of two stainless steel cable that run the full length of the trailer, each located under the roof to the inside of the truck wall or curtain side.  A Cross-Brace and fall arrest cable is attached to the these that is able to travel the full length of the truck.  A retractable lanyard is attached to the cross brace, this travels across the width of the vehicle and automatically pays out and retracts a webbing lanyard.
